Local Representation Shifting for Weber School District Precinct #6 Seat
24 April 2026 As the 2026 election cycle gains momentum, residents of the Ogden Valley and eastern North Ogden are preparing for a transition in leadership on the Weber School District Board of Education. The seat for Precinct #6, which encompasses Huntsville, Eden, Liberty, and portions of North Ogden, will see a new face in 2027. Longtime incumbent Janis Christensen, who has served on the board since 2015, will not be returning to her post. While Christensen initially filed for candidacy, she has since withdrawn from the race, ending a tenure marked by over a decade of representation for the Valley’s students and taxpayers. With the primary election canceled, the field has narrowed to two local challengers who will face off in the general election this November. Karen Miller and Robert Petersen have both stepped forward to vie for the non-partisan seat. The winner of the November 3 contest will inherit a district that faces unique geographical and logistical challenges, including the management of student transportation across the canyon and the continued growth of the North Ogden and Valley corridors. While Ogden Valley students traditionally attend Weber High School in Pleasant View, the representation for those students is split at the board level. Weber High itself is physically located in Precinct #1, currently represented by Kelly Larson. However, because school board seats are determined by a member's place of residence rather than the school’s physical location, Valley families look to the Precinct #6 representative to voice their specific concerns regarding school boundaries, rural busing, and local educational priorities. The incoming board member will be sworn in during January 2027, joining a seven-member body responsible for overseeing the budget, curriculum standards, and long-term planning for one of Northern Utah's largest school districts.
