It’s time to celebrate another conservation easement in Ogden Valley! A new awesome gift to our community.
On August 13, 2026, Keith and Belinda Rounkles recorded a conservation easement on ~128 acres of forest land in Ogden Canyon. It will be forever known as the Keith and Belinda Rounkles Ogden Canyon Conservancy. It rises above Highway 39 along the Ogden River Scenic Byway, where its steep, densely forested pine trees and wooded slopes, high-elevation ridgelines, and striking rock formations for part of the approach into Ogden Valley. The conservancy provides important habitat for mule deer, moose turkey, California Quail, Dusky Grouse and other wildlife. Its intact forest canopy provides travel corridors for wildlife moving through the canyon. Its proximity to Forest Service land adds to the connectivity to Ogden River and surrounding habitat. Note: Local history and legend hold that the view of this property, looking down river from the Artesian wells, inspired the name for Pine View Dam and Reservoir.
Its no surprise that the Rounkles family saved this land in perpetuity. Ogden Canyon has been their home for nearly fifty years. Keith and Belinda owned and operated The Oaks for forty-four of those years. They have spent a lifetime being generous and giving to our community. They have been instrumental in leading canyon clean ups, supporting and sponsoring events, youth and adult athletic sports teams, marathons, Weber Pathways, serving on the Ogden Valley Planning Commission, etc., etc. Over the years, many young people in our valley began their working lives at The Oaks, developing strong values and a solid work ethic while having fun along the way. And many of those first time workers are now running successful businesses in Ogden Valley and around the world.
In the press release announcing the easement, they stated, “Nature has taught us invaluable life lessons, and we believe preserving this terrain creates vital learning opportunities for generations to come.” Well said.
Their gift to our community through this conservation easement, and the legacy they are leaving for their family, will now be memorized forever.
