Sheriff's Office Reports New Contract, Expanded Staffing and Increased Parking Enforcement in Ogden Valley

Lieutenant Charles Creager, with the Weber County Sheriff's Office (WCSO), presented the second-quarter 2026 update at the Ogden Valley City Council meeting on July 7, highlighting a renewed law enforcement services contract for the upcoming fiscal year, organizational restructuring, staffing increases, and new parking enforcement efforts around Pineview Reservoir.
The report noted that the city's previous law enforcement services contract expired June 30, 2026. City officials and the Sheriff's Office finalized and signed a new agreement in late June that will remain in effect through June 30, 2027. The new timeline aligns Ogden Valley City's contract cycle with those of other contract cities served by the Sheriff's Office.
Another significant change involves parking enforcement. Ogden Valley City and WCSO have entered into an agreement allowing civil parking citations to be processed directly through the Sheriff's Office, replacing the previous process that relied on Washington Terrace Justice Court.
Sheriff's Office Restructures Enforcement Division
Officials also outlined a recent division of the Sheriff's Office enforcement operations into two distinct funding and service groups designed to clarify staffing and budget responsibilities.
Under the new model, Weber Metro consists of deputies funded by contract cities and assigned exclusively to those communities, operating like traditional city police departments. Meanwhile, General Fund deputies are supported by county property tax revenues and provide services that benefit residents and visitors throughout Weber County, regardless of municipal boundaries.
As of July 1, the WCSO Enforcement Division includes 84 sworn positions, with 56 positions assigned to contract-city services such as patrol, investigations and school resource deputies, while 28 positions serve countywide functions including civil operations, Internet Crimes Against Children investigations, search and rescue, recreation-area patrols, drone operations and other specialized services.
Department Adds Positions Despite Vacancies
The Sheriff's Office reported that staffing increased by six positions effective July 1, bringing the total authorized workforce to 84 sworn personnel. Despite the increase, the department continues to face staffing challenges, with eight vacancies currently open, including seven deputy positions and one sergeant position.
Parking Enforcement Begins Around Pineview
Deputies began issuing parking citations under city ordinances in mid-June. According to the report, officers issued 52 parking citations, with the most occurring during the weekends of June 12 and June 19. In comparison, 45 citations were issued in the Pineview area during June 2025. Sheriff's Office records personnel are currently processing the citations while implementing necessary programming updates to support the new system.
