Port Boat Ramp and Windsurfer Beach Close for Major Reconstruction Project
11 April 2026 Significant upgrades to the Port Boat Ramp and Pineview Trailhead are underway this year as the U.S. Forest Service begins a reconstruction project to improve visitor experience and safety on the western shores of Pineview Reservoir. While officials state the improvements will be beneficial in the long term, the construction is expected to create immediate impacts for Huntsville residents and visitors. The Port Boat Ramp and Pineview Trailhead, also known as Windsurfer Beach, are currently closed. A full site closure is in effect during the entire construction period, which is expected to continue through 2026. No public access will be allowed at any time for public safety, and portions of the Pineview west trail are also closed. The project includes building a new road near Pineview Trailhead, constructing a new day-use site called "New Point," and improving the Port Boat Ramp. Specific upgrades include new parking lots, restrooms, garbage services, picnic sites, fee stations, and information kiosks. The Port Boat Ramp reconstruction will also feature an aquatic species inspection area to prevent the spread of quagga mussels. While several locations in and around Huntsville were initially considered for a boat decontamination station, stakeholders identified a site west of the base of Trappers Loop Road. These recreation areas were originally developed between 1959 and 1979 and have exceeded their design life. According to the Forest Service, increased visitor use necessitated a redesign of traffic flow to reduce conflicts with traffic on State Route 158. Local officials expect increased midweek boat traffic at Cemetery Point due to the closures. Residents should also expect boating limits on Pineview Reservoir at times due to limited parking at Cemetery Point and Anderson Cove. Currently, the Anderson Cove boat ramp remains open with limited parking available. The Forest Service is implementing the project in cooperation with Weber County, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, and the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation. Preliminary information has been shared on the Town Facebook page, and updates will continue to be posted at HuntsvilleUtah.gov and through the U.S. Forest Service Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
