Public Participation Opportunities Expand as Planning Commission Advances General Plan, Map, and Code Updates
15 March 2026

As Ogden Valley moves through its first months of operation, the Planning Commission has taken on an intensive workload to prepare the foundational land‑use documents that will guide the city for years to come. Since January, commissioners have been meeting weekly to develop recommended updates to the General Plan, the official Zoning Map, and the city’s first Land‑Use Code.

This work is essential. With the launch of the new municipality came the responsibility to adopt critical land‑use regulations that reflect the valley’s character, protect its resources, and provide a predictable framework for future development. Upon incorporation—and in conjunction with the City Council’s declaration of a temporary land‑use moratorium lasting up to six months—the Council formally delegated this drafting responsibility to the Planning Commission.

After weeks of steady progress, the Commission has now completed its initial review of a number of items and is preparing to present its recommendations to the public. A formal Public Hearing will be held on March 24, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., where residents will have the opportunity to comment directly on the proposed General Plan amendments, zoning map, and land‑use regulations.

The Commission continues to meet on a weekly schedule to complete its work and respond to public input. Commission meetings are held at the Huntsville Town Hall on these dates:
  • Second and Fourth Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m.
  • First and Third Tuesdays at 3:00 p.m.

In this issue of the Ogden Valley News, readers will find advance notices for the March 24 Public Hearing, as well as an upcoming regular meeting on March 17. While its publication schedule does not allow the newspaper to carry notices of every meeting, these notices were prepared early to help residents stay informed during this period of unusually heavy activity. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the official meeting notices at the Utah Public Notice website (www.utah.gov/pmn/).

The City encourages all residents to attend and participate. Public input is a vital part of shaping the city’s first land‑use framework, and the March 24 Public Hearing will be the primary opportunity for community members to speak directly to the Commission about the proposed changes.

Once the Planning Commission finalizes its recommendations, the materials will be forwarded to the City Council for consideration. Under Utah law, the Commission’s role is advisory; the Council holds the authority to make the final determination and adopt the city’s land‑use regulations. Both the Commission and the Council are vitally interested in community feedback.

Ogden Valley City’s leaders express their appreciation for the Planning Commission’s work and look forward to continued public involvement as the city establishes the policies that will guide its future.
