Pipeline Replacement Project Brings Delays to Ogden CanyonUpdated 28 February 2026
Ogden Canyon Pipeline Replacement Project Update Motorists and residents traveling through Ogden Canyon along SR-39 should prepare for delays over the coming weeks as the ongoing water pipeline replacement efforts continue. Project officials have announced a schedule of occasional periods of lane closures and traffic shifts that will impact the canyon through May 1, 2026. February 23 – mid-March: Crew members will be potholing various locations along the pipeline ROW from Valhalla to Wildwood, and further east to SR-39 to firmly identify pipeline depth, soil conditions, and alignment relative to local utilities. A light duty truck, mini-excavator and a two-man crew will be traversing the ROW during this time. Material Transport and Logistics Motorists may also encounter intermittent pauses in traffic near the West Hermitage bridge. Pipeline materials are being staged just east of the river and transported across using a crane. While transport frequency has decreased since early January, loads typically arrive in bunches, averaging one truckload per week. When these loads arrive (approx. 4 loads/day), brief road closures are required for safety to back trucks into the staging areas and unload new pipe/load old pipe. Traffic Impacts: What Drivers Need to Know Because construction will be in close proximity to the roadway, traffic control measures are necessary to ensure the safety of both motorists and workers.
Construction Progress and Locations Crews are currently active in several sections of the canyon. Work is strictly limited to daytime hours—sunrise to dusk, Monday through Friday—with no night work scheduled unless emergency tasks arise.
Looking ahead to Spring/Summer 2026 Work: Design is underway for pipeline replacement work along the east bench of the Ogden Valley to replace the pipeline from SR-39 to the water tanks near the 22nd Street Trailhead. More information TBA. Ongoing Survey Work In addition to the heavy construction, residents may see geotechnical and survey crews conducting "potholing," soil analysis, and geolocating work along the pipeline route. This survey work is continuous. Project coordinators note that specific updates for local property owners will be sent via email or text message. Residents wishing to opt out of text alerts are encouraged to notify the project team directly. For more information visit ogdencitypipeline.com or email [email protected]. |
