Ogden Valley Enacts Automatic Fire Restrictions, Stage 2 Rules Now in Effect

A new local policy regarding fire safety has immediately been put to the test following recent orders from regional fire authorities. Ogden Valley has officially implemented a mechanism for the automatic adoption of fire restrictions, closing a jurisdictional gap and putting Stage 2 restrictions into immediate effect within city limits.
 
Automatic Adoption Policy Closes Loophole
 
Under the newly established premise, whenever the Weber Fire District, Weber County, the State Forester, or another recognized fire authority issues Stage 1, Stage 2, or equivalent fire restrictions covering the surrounding area, those restrictions are now automatically applied inside Ogden Valley city limits.
 
Previously, such restrictions—like the recent Weber Fire District order—explicitly noted that they did not apply to incorporated cities. The new policy ensures that these life-safety measures take effect on the exact same date as the regional orders, bypassing the need for the City Council to take separate, time-consuming action each time fire danger spikes.
 
Additionally, the newly adopted policy permanently places a local fireworks restriction on the books. This restriction is directly tied to a municipal map, which designates the brush, forest, and wildland-urban interface areas that make up the vast majority of the city as restricted zones.
 
Stage 2 Restrictions Effective Immediately
 
Because the Weber Fire District’s Fire Marshal’s Office and Wildland Division issued a Stage 2 Fire Restriction Order effective June 26, 2026, Ogden Valley's automatic adoption means those exact Stage 2 rules are currently active for city residents.
 
The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire & State Lands, alongside the Weber Fire District, mandate extreme caution during this period. Residents and visitors must adhere to strict guidelines regarding what is and is not permitted while Stage 2 restrictions remain in effect.
 
Prohibited Activities Under Stage 2
 
According to the official Stage 2 restriction guidelines now active in the area, the following activities are strictly prohibited:

• Open Fires and Charcoal Grills: No open flames, barbecues, coal and wood-burning stoves, or tent stoves.
• Fireworks and Pyrotechnics: Discharging or using any fireworks, tracer ammo, incendiary rounds, or exploding targets is banned.
• Improper Disposal: Dumping charcoal briquettes or hot ashes is prohibited.
• Smoking in Dry Vegetation: Smoking is not allowed outside of developed recreation sites, enclosed personal vehicles, or buildings. It is strictly prohibited in dry vegetation areas.
• Metal Working: Cutting, welding, or grinding metal in areas with dry vegetation is banned.
• Unapproved Engines: Operating motorized equipment without approved spark arrestors or parking on dry grass is prohibited. This applies to chainsaws, ATVs, motorcycles, and other small engines.

Allowed Activities Under Stage 2
 
While restrictions are tight to prevent wildfires, residents may still utilize certain devices with caution. The following are allowed under Stage 2:

• Devices with Shut-off Valves: Propane stoves, gas grills, propane fire pits, Blackstones/griddles, and pellet stoves are permitted, provided they have an "ON/OFF" shut-off valve. (This applies to private residences on lands with a pressurized water system and in agency-developed campgrounds).

 
Governor Cox Issues Statewide Fireworks Restrictions
 
Further impacting the upcoming holidays, Governor Cox signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency that suspends UCA 53-7-224 and temporarily restricts fireworks discharge within incorporated cities and municipalities.
 
Please note: Fireworks are already prohibited on all unincorporated Weber County lands, State Lands, and Federal Lands. This executive order specifically expands firework restrictions to incorporated cities and municipalities.
 
Based on the information currently available, a statewide restriction on firework discharges through July 5 will be implemented, with two exceptions:

• Licensed permitted public fireworks displays.
• Fireworks discharged within a designated area approved by each individual city.

 
Cities may or may not designate approved areas. Residents should check their local city website, social media, or normal channels of correspondence for updates regarding these designations.
