Immersive Outdoor Music Experience to Return to Huntsville Monastery

Back by popular demand, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild(TM)  returns to the Huntsville Monastery September 19 for its 11th season. IN A LANDSCAPE is an interactive concert series that travels the country, playing in iconic outdoor settings such as Yosemite and Joshua Tree. The fundraising concert at Huntsville Monastery will benefit OVLT’s mission of preserving Ogden Valley’s unique complexion of pristine natural resources, farms, ranches and expansive open lands.
 
Founded in 2016, by classical pianist Hunter Noack, IN A LANDSCAPE is an outdoor concert series where America’s most stunning landscapes replace the traditional concert hall. A 9-foot Steinway grand piano travels on a flatbed trailer to national parks, urban greenspaces, working ranches, farms, and historical sites for classical music concerts that connect people with each landscape. To meet the acoustical challenges of performing in the wild, the music reaches listeners via wireless headphones. Unconfined to seats, Huntsville concertgoers will be able to explore the landscape, lie in sunny meadows, and commune with the sacred grounds where the monks once plowed and prayed.
 
Ogden Valley Land Trust is a local non-profit organization that holds conservation easements for landowners who wish to protect and preserve their property while retaining ownership. The Ogden Valley Land Trust can advise landowners regarding the advantages and benefits of conservation easements as the land remains in private ownership. Currently, the Ogden Valley Land Trust has worked with landowners to protect, preserve, and steward ~8,000 acres of land in Ogden Valley. OVLT needs the help and support of our community. The September 19 fundraising event will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a silent auction. The iconic In A Landscape concert follows. The Monastery is located at 1250 South 9500 East in Huntsville. About the event location - Huntsville Monastery is a crown jewel of Ogden Valley. 1,050 acres are permanently protected and preserved in perpetuity with a conservation easement.  

The monastery was founded by 32 monks who were mostly veterans of World War II. It served 84 monks and novices at the height of its operation in the 1960s. The monks were active farmers, ranchers, and beekeepers who used agricultural production as a form of prayer and devotion. In August 2017 the monastery officially closed due to the remaining monks’ advanced ages.

In addition to the historic and cultural significance of the property, the monastery also holds important conservation values that provide benefits to wildlife and biodiversity, watershed health, etc. and the community at large.

No Dogs: Dogs are not permitted on the monastery grounds.

No Smoking: Huntsville Monastery has a no smoking restriction on its land.
