Our Voices Must Matter
By John Anderson - 14 July 2026
Dear Ogden Valley News:
I think the history of our valley and the name “Ogden” have been well documented in our local newspaper in multiple articles. Invoking the names of a BYU professor and a prophet (I love B. Young) in the July 1, 2026, edition of the Ogden Valley News is irrelevant, and I want to say inappropriate (except this is free press!) in the naming of our new “City” (don’t like that label…we are a rural community). Public surveys clearly reflect the voices of the people. The name Ogden has not appeared as a contender in any of the surveys. Our community obviously wants a different name. The names Eden and Eden Valley have made it to the top. I hope this is not an attempt to subvert the democratic process. The name “Eden” is deeply embedded in this Valley’s history. So far, it has been the People’s choice and is historically appropriate. Let’s adopt a unique characteristic for our new City and NOT have Politics as Usual.
Sincerely,
John Anderson,
Eden
