North Fork's Parks New Underpass
By Alan Wheelwright, Eden Valley Trails - 13 September 2026 I've been building trails in this valley for a while now, but nothing quite prepared me for what it took to finish the underpass on our North Fork directional trail. We're now at 2.7 of the planned 5.1 miles on that project, and crossing this particular milestone — getting the new trail safely under Cinch Trail — is one I'm genuinely proud to write about. I'll be honest with you: building something at this scale was new territory for us, and there were some stressful weeks leading up to it. Ninety-degree days standing next to that shiny metal, impacts that sounded like an F-35 flying low overhead — it was quite the experience for all of us. But every time we hit a snag, our crew member Bryce kept us steady with the same line: "we got this." And somehow, we always did. Six hundred and ninety-eight bolts and about 8,000 pounds of steel later, we've got something I think this community is going to love riding. It's one of the most unique features in the park, and honestly unlike anything else we've built. Seeing it finished is a good reminder to me that this crew can take on projects we never would've attempted a few years ago. None of this happens without the people who show up. The local high school mountain bike teams have been out almost every week this season doing some of the most backbreaking work on the project — cutting roots, moving rock. Between them and everyone else who's pitched in, we've now crossed 1,000 volunteer hours this year across our trail system. That number doesn't happen without a community that genuinely cares about this valley, and I'm grateful for every hour of it. If you've ever thought about supporting us in another way, a donation goes a long way toward keeping projects like this moving — you can find out more at edenvalleytrails.com. We haven't let the North Fork build pull focus from the rest of our trail network, either. Our crew trimmed Spork, Waterfall, Moose Tracks, Traildemic, Mules Ear and Mules Shoe, along with Scrub Oak and Park View, and we're out clearing downed trees after every big wind event, same as always. One more thing I'm excited about: the Pineview Loop Pathway is picking up real momentum. We'll be selecting the engineering firm to lead the feasibility study for the loop around Pineview Reservoir this September, kicking off the next phase of a project that's been years in the making. More to come as that gets underway. We're aiming for a grand opening for the North Fork trail late this fall, if all goes well. 2.7 miles down, this one-of-a-kind underpass behind us, and 1,000-plus volunteer hours in the bank — that's real momentum, and I couldn't be more grateful to everyone who's part of it. Thanks for donating, volunteering, and caring about these trails. It shows.
