A Note from the Editor: Navigating Our City's Transition

Recently, we received feedback from the public regarding the volume of content provided by city officials over the last few months since city incorporation. We appreciate the community's dedication to independent journalism and community transparency.
While our new city navigates the early stages of incorporation and establishes its operational framework, the Ogden Valley News decided to provide a temporary platform for city leadership to communicate directly with the community. Our primary goal during this transitional period has simply been to ensure residents know what is going on and are kept informed about local developments. We want to take this opportunity to provide our readers with some necessary context regarding these recent publication decisions.
Please be assured that this arrangement will not be permanent. The city is currently searching for Communications & Social Media volunteer(s) to help create and share news in an effective way across a few social media outlets. Once the city finds the support it needs to manage its own communications, we will discontinue providing these dedicated city postings in the newspaper.
We understand the critical importance of clearly separating government communications from independent reporting. On our website, we have successfully delineated city-supplied news by placing it in a special section on the main web page. Unfortunately, due to the long-established format used with our print edition, we found it too difficult to replicate that same level of visual separation in the physical paper.
The Ogden Valley News remains deeply committed to providing independent journalism for our community.
In retrospect, we acknowledge that we could have done a better job of informing the public upfront about why we have been posting city government-generated news. We appreciate the feedback from our readers and look forward to returning to our standard editorial balance as the city’s independent communication channels become fully operational.
