Eden Resident Linda Carver Receives Weber State Honorary Doctorate
8 May 2026 Weber State University awarded Linda Carver an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities during its commencement ceremony on Friday, April 24, 2026. The honorary doctorate is the highest recognition the university can bestow and is reserved for individuals whose lives and service have made a lasting impact in their professions and communities. Carver, a longtime resident of Eden, has dedicated her career to expanding opportunities for young people and strengthening communities across Northern Utah. She began her career as a special education teacher and quickly became known for her commitment to students who needed the greatest support. She helped develop curriculum for at-risk students and created work-based programs for students with disabilities, helping hundreds of young people gain meaningful employment. Carver later served as principal of Canyon View School, where she received Principal of the Year honors and recognition for excellence in school management. She then advanced to leadership roles in Weber School District, serving as Director of Student Services before becoming the district’s first female Assistant Superintendent. Even after retirement, Carver continued to invest in future educators by mentoring student teachers and new teachers through BYU-Idaho and Western Governors University. Her influence extends well beyond education. Carver currently serves as Board Chair of America First Credit Union, one of the nation’s largest credit unions. She has served on the board for 23 years, including 12 years as chair, and was the first woman to hold that role. For her leadership in governance, she received the National Distinguished Credit Union Director Award from the Credit Union Executives Society and was recognized by Utah Business Magazine as one of its “30 Women to Watch.” Carver's service has also included leadership as chair of the Weber County Children’s Justice Center Board, along with numerous other community boards focused on mentoring and supporting youth and families. Carver’s connection to Weber State runs deep. As a student, she was a member of Cardinal Key National Honor Society and LaDianada Sorority. She also holds a master’s degree in secondary education from Utah State University. With this honorary doctorate, Weber State recognized a lifetime of trailblazing leadership, dedicated service, and lasting contributions to Northern Utah. Linda and her husband, Dave, have lived in Ogden Valley for decades, where they raised their children — who now also live in the valley. Despite the titles, awards, and statewide recognition, those who know Linda best will probably tell you she is still the same person she has always been: practical, approachable, deeply invested in people, and far more comfortable talking about others’ successes than her own. |
