Ogden Valley Branch Announces Summer Reading Programs
By Weber County Library System - 24 April 2026 The Weber County Library System will begin registration for the children, teen, and adult summer reading programs on May 26, 2026. Get ready to dig deep! This year’s summer reading theme is “Unearth a Story,” an exploration of hidden tales, history, and the power of storytelling. Registration for the program is free and available for all age groups. The children’s program is open to kids zero to 12, the teen program is open to teens 12 to 18, and the adult program will be open for those 18 and older. Prizes can be earned at all levels, with many being earned just for signing up. Participation in the summer reading program provides not only a good opportunity for expanding reading goals but also encourages participation in a variety of activities. As part of the program, the library will be hosting bi-weekly activities that correspond with the overall theme, with topics including dinosaurs, paleontology, and archaeology. To start the summer, the library invites the community to a kickoff event filled with outdoor activities, crafts, guest presenters, and the Snowy Shack. The event will take place at the Ogden Valley Branch on June 2, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. All ages are welcome and encouraged to attend. Weber County Library also places a special emphasis on teen programming in an effort to encourage the use of free library resources and spaces. Throughout the summer, teens have the opportunity to participate in activities designed just for them, including an end-of-summer party on July 29, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. They also have the opportunity to earn raffle tickets for grand prizes. Tickets can be earned by attending any program, completing summer reading logs, or participating in the library’s bonus quests. Adults can participate by picking up a Summer Reading Log at the nearest library location to start earning prizes and raffle tickets toward one of five grand prize baskets. The log features a variety of creative ways to participate, such as using the reading tracker, uncovering answers to history trivia, or exploring new genres through curated reading themes. The additional Library Side Quest is a great way to stay engaged and explore new ideas all summer long. This year features a special bonus quest: when patrons find the hidden duck (which is disguised as a bald eagle!), they will earn a prize button. Each library location features its own unique button design, allowing patrons to collect all five. Those who successfully collect the full set of five buttons will receive an extra raffle ticket toward the grand prizes. In addition to summer reading activities and weekly programs, Weber County Library is once again offering three- to four-hour STEAM camps at each location. Camps are aimed at third to sixth graders and allow children to explore topics through activities, experiments, crafts, and games. This summer, the Ogden Valley Branch will host “Around the World in 180 Minutes” and Paleontology camps. Registration for camps can be found online in the event calendar. In further efforts to ward off the “summer slide,” Weber County Library offers a yearly reading partner program called America Reads. The Ogden Valley Branch is excited to announce that this program will be returning to the Valley this summer. Children can register for time slots to read one-on-one with a reading partner and earn prizes for each week of reading completed. Parents and caregivers can register their children online at https://www.weberpl.org. The summer will end with a finale block party at each Weber County Library location. The Ogden Valley Branch will host its finale on July 28, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. For a full list of activities, visit any branch of the Weber County Library or see the event calendar online at https://weberpl.events.mylibrary.digital/ |
