Editorial Policy: Letters to the Editor
The Ogden Valley News welcomes letters from our readers on matters of public interest. To ensure a fair and constructive community forum, all submissions are subject to the following editorial guidelines:
Word Count: Letters must be 500 words or fewer.
Relevance: Submissions should address topics of local interest to the Ogden Valley community or respond directly to articles, columns, or previously published letters in recent editions. Please cite the specific article title and publication date when applicable.
Identification: All letters must include the author's full real name, physical address (e.g., Eden, Huntsville, Liberty), and a daytime telephone number. Only your name and town of residence will be published; your phone number and street address are strictly for verification purposes. Editorial staff may contact you to confirm authorship prior to publication.
Exclusivity: We require exclusive rights to your letter. Submissions that have been sent to multiple publications simultaneously will not be printed.
Originality: Submissions must be written in the author's own words. We do not publish form letters, petition templates, or letters generated by advocacy groups. Anonymous letters will not be accepted.
Editorial Control: The Ogden Valley News retains the right to edit all letters for length, clarity, grammar, and adherence to standard publication style. We will not alter the writer's core viewpoint, but we will trim excess text to fit print space constraints.
Factual Accuracy: Writers are entitled to their opinions, but any facts, statistics, or quotes included in the letter must be accurate and verifiable. Letters must have in-line links or URL addresses to facts, data, quotes and references.
Tone: We encourage robust debate, but we will not publish letters that contain personal attacks, libelous statements, profanity, or discriminatory language. Focus your argument on the issues, not the individuals.
