What’s Going On With All the Parking Along the Highway?

Increased roadside parking along local highways has become more noticeable in recent weeks, largely due to the closure of Windsurfer Beach and the Port Ramp Marina. The rise in vehicles has prompted questions from residents about parking enforcement.

City officials report that enforcement efforts are in progress, but implementation has required completion of several administrative and legal steps.

Ordinances and Agreements in Progress
To establish enforceable regulations, the city has drafted and approved a parking ordinance, providing the legal framework needed to address violations. In addition, an interlocal agreement with the County Sheriff’s Department has been approved at the city level. Final authorization from the county is still pending before the agreement can take full effect.

The city also worked in coordination with the Washington Terrace Justice Court and the Sheriff’s Department to ensure the enforcement structure meets local needs and follows proper legal procedures.

Code Enforcement Position Established
As part of the broader effort, the city has adopted an ordinance creating a Code Enforcement Officer position. Following a selection process, RaeAnn Bott of Beacon Code Consultants has been hired to fill the role.

The Code Enforcement Officer will work alongside the Sheriff’s Department and has authority to address certain parking violations under the city’s municipal code.

Residents who wish to report illegal parking can submit a complaint through the city’s website (ogdenvalley.gov) by navigating to Departments > Code Enforcement. Officials note that written complaints help maintain accurate records and assist enforcement efforts.

Timeline for Enforcement
According to city officials, final steps are nearing completion, and parking enforcement is expected to begin the week of June 15, 2026, pending final county approval.
