Ogden Valley City Council Adopts New Excavation Permit Requirement
15 February 2026
The Ogden Valley City Council has approved a new resolution requiring anyone who intends to cut or excavate a city road, trail, or other public right‑of‑way to first obtain an official excavation permit. The measure is designed to protect the community’s infrastructure and ensure that all work on public corridors is performed safely and responsibly.
City leaders emphasized that excavation—whether for utilities, construction, or private projects—can significantly affect road integrity, drainage systems, and long-term maintenance costs. Requiring a permit allows the City Engineer to review proposed work, verify proper restoration plans, and coordinate projects to avoid unnecessary damage or repeated cuts to newly improved surfaces.
“Permitting is how we safeguard the investments residents have already made in our roads and trails,” stated Council Member Don Hickman, the resolution’s sponsor.
Anyone planning excavation within Ogden Valley City limits should contact Nate Smith, City Engineer, at [email protected] for guidance and permit instructions.
