Eden Valley Trails Awarded $183,250 State Grant to Advance Pineview Loop Pathway

Eden Valley Trails has been awarded a $183,250 Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant from the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation to fund engineering and feasibility work on the Pineview Loop Pathway, the long-envisioned shared-use path circling Pineview Reservoir.

The grant will fund two key pieces of the project. First, it will pay for complete engineering of a permanent bridge at Winters Grove, where the previous crossing was washed out by flooding in 2023. The U.S. Forest Service's temporary bridge has kept the route open in the meantime, but a permanent structure is essential to connecting the pathway for the long haul. Second, the grant funds a feasibility and cost study for completing the remaining miles of the loop.

Roughly nine miles of the pathway are already built. The study will give Eden Valley Trails, Ogden Valley City, and other partners a clear picture of what it will take — in dollars, alignments, and engineering — to finish the remaining seven to eight miles and allow for safe travel of pedestrians and cyclists along the highways surrounding Pineview Reservoir.

"I've been working on this pathway for over 17 years, going back to my early days with Ogden Valley Pathways," said Alan Wheelwright, Executive Director of Eden Valley Trails. "A complete loop around Pineview has been a dream of mine since the beginning. Having solid engineering and real cost estimates will go a long way toward finally getting it done — and getting the Winters Grove bridge moving toward reopening is a huge first step."

The state grant is matched by $55,500 in combined support from Weber County, Ogden Valley City, and Huntsville City, bringing total project funding to $283,250 — a show of local commitment that helped make the application competitive. Once complete, the engineering and feasibility work will position the project to pursue construction funding.

When finished, the Pineview Loop Pathway will offer walkers, runners, cyclists, families, and adaptive riders a safe, non-motorized route around one of Ogden Valley's most beloved landmarks — connecting communities, trailheads, and beaches along the way.
