Naming the New City: Community Invited to Help Choose the New City’s Name

11 February 2026

A grassroots community initiative is giving residents a historic opportunity: helping choose the official name of the new city. For many months, volunteers have gathered name suggestions from locals, conducted multiple surveys, and now the effort is entering its final and most important stage.

The City Council recently announced that it supports one final survey, ensuring every resident has the chance to make their voice heard. This last survey will allow community members to vote on their preferred name from the list of suggestions compiled during earlier outreach efforts. The sponsor for the Naming Advisory Group is Council Member Peggy Dooling-Baker.

Residents who wish to participate in the group are welcome to attend planning meetings on Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm, at the Ogden Valley Branch Library in Huntsville. The meetings will be held until the survey is finalized. The group would like representation from every district. For information, please contact [email protected].

Once we finalize the survey, it will be available on the city’s official website and published in the local newspaper for a period of one month. After the survey closes, all responses will be tallied, and the results will be presented to the City Council during a public meeting. The results are only a recommendation for the City Council. The council may accept or reject the recommendation. The Naming Advisory Group will be listed on the City Council Agenda, which will be noticed on the Ogden Valley City Public Notice Website.

Group leaders emphasize that this is a unique moment in which community input will directly shape the identity—and future—of the new city. “This name will represent our home for generations,” organizers said. “Your participation matters.”
