City Name Survey Results Reported

Results from the second “Name the City” survey show strong community support for a new city name, with Eden, Eden Valley, and Pineview emerging as the top three choices among residents.

The survey findings were presented by Mia Foster, a recent Weber State University graduate, and former Student Body Officer. The project was a collaborative effort between the Naming Advisory Committee and Dr. Johnson, a Political Science professor at Weber State, who, along with Foster, helped design the survey questions and analyze the results.

To ensure broad participation, all residents received a mailed notice with instructions for accessing the survey online via phone or computer. Additional outreach included multiple articles in The Ogden Valley News explaining how to participate. The money for the survey was donated by local residents. Survey data was analyzed using Qualtrics, a widely used industry-standard platform.

Two Surveys Show Support for Change and Preferences
The first survey asked residents whether they supported changing the city’s name and invited them to submit three suggestions. Of the 1,660 respondents, 83% expressed support for a name change. From these responses, the top seven suggested names were selected for further evaluation.

The second survey asked residents to rate their preferences among the top seven names. Out of 2,187 respondents, Eden, Eden Valley, and Pineview rose to the top.
Additional insights from the second survey include:

• 91% of respondents identified as full-time residents
• 47% have lived in the valley for more than 20 years
• Participation was evenly distributed across all five districts:
  • District 1: 14%
  • District 2: 17%
  • District 3: 21%
  • District 4: 18%
  • District 5: 17%

Next Steps
City leaders are expected to review the survey results following the completion of work to lift the current moratorium in early July. A formal discussion is tentatively scheduled for the City Council meeting on July 6, 2026.
