Building Community by Caring for the Place We Share
By District 1 Council Member Tia Shaw - 8 May 2026 On April 25, Ogden Valley residents showed that community isn’t just something you talk about, it’s something you do, together. Community building often starts with a simple question: what can we do—right now—that makes life better for everyone? In Ogden Valley, one answer arrived in work gloves and garbage bags at the 6th annual Spring Cleanup, where neighbors gathered at Eden Park to care for the valley they all call home. There was a chill in the air, but the sun was shining and spirits were bright. Young and old spread out across the community to pick up roadside garbage and pull Dyer’s Woad. Volunteers could be seen throughout the valley, each small effort adding up to a visible, shared result: a cleaner, more welcoming Ogden Valley. The Ogden Valley Spring Cleanup is a reminder that community building doesn’t require a big budget or a perfect plan. It takes a shared purpose, a place to gather, and neighbors willing to show up for one another. When people care for the land together, they also strengthen the relationships that make our valley feel like home. Tia Shaw District One |
