Ogden Valley Announces Formation of Agricultural Advisory Committee
28 March 2026
The Ogden Valley City Council formally announced the formation of the Agricultural Advisory Committee on March 23, marking an important step in supporting the Valley’s agricultural heritage and future.
The Committee is intended to support the community’s General Plan, which emphasizes the importance of protecting and promoting active agriculture as a defining element of the Valley’s identity, economy, and landscape.
The Agricultural Advisory Committee will serve as a practical, solution-oriented resource for the City, providing recommendations on issues affecting local farms and ranches, while helping to reduce conflicts and strengthen collaboration between agricultural producers, residents, and other stakeholders.
The Agricultural Advisory Committee will be co-chaired by Council Member Don Hickman, who will work alongside committee members to guide its efforts.
Committee members were selected to reflect the breadth of agricultural experience in the Ogden Valley, including large and small cattle and hay operations—the dominant forms of agriculture in the area—as well as small-scale farming, regenerative practices, entrepreneurship, and business development. Expertise in water and irrigation systems was also a key consideration, recognizing the central role water plays in sustaining agricultural production.
Together, these perspectives represent the interconnected components of a resilient food production system—one that supports agricultural families, feeds the community, and provides the economic foundation necessary for the long-term survival of the Valley’s farms and ranches.
The Committee’s initial work will focus on practical, near-term solutions that benefit both producers and the broader community, while helping to ensure that agriculture remains a vital and enduring part of life in the Ogden Valley.
Subcommittees will be formed to focus on specific areas such as land-use planning & zoning, water & irrigation, economic development and education & community outreach. A complete description of the Committee’s initial plans can be found on the City website.
The first Agriculture Advisory Committee meeting will be held from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9 at the Ogden Valley Branch Library in Huntsville. If you are interested in being involved, please contact Councilman Don Hickman at [email protected] or Iain Hueton at [email protected].
